We are so excited to announce that we’ll be returning to Blaenau Gwent for the 2026-2027 academic year, continuing our partnership with the BG STEM Project to deliver coding workshops across all schools in the region. After an incredible 2025-2026 programme, we can’t wait to get back.
At Chaos Created, we’re a Bristol-based studio that creates websites, apps, games, podcasts, and more. Code Created is our initiative to inspire the next generation of game creators, and what makes our workshops special is that we bring genuine, real-life industry experience into the classroom. Whether pupils dream of becoming programmers, artists, designers, or game testers, our workshops give them a real taste of what it means to make something from scratch.
The BG STEM Facilitation Project, funded by the Welsh Government’s Tech Valleys initiative, has been transforming STEM education across Blaenau Gwent since its pilot phase in 2021. The project is part of an ambitious vision to establish the region as a globally recognised centre for developing new technologies and advanced manufacturing.
A Year to Remember
The 2025-2026 programme has been one of the most rewarding years we’ve had delivering workshops, and the feedback from teachers and coordinators across the region has genuinely moved us.
We loved hearing from teachers how many children took their games home and kept working on them. We heard this again and again – children sharing their games with family, logging back on at home to add new features, and coming in the next day still buzzing. One teacher told us: “The children absolutely loved it and continue to develop their games. Many of the children have reported on how much they have enjoyed sharing their games with their families at home.” Another school went one step further, telling us they were holding a dedicated family session so pupils could share what they’d built: “The children are so proud – we’re even holding a family session so the children can share their accomplishments!”
Several teachers highlighted the impact on pupils who don’t always find it easy to engage. “It was a real delight to see some of my typically disengaged learners come to life during this session,” one teacher told us. Another described a Year 6 cohort that can be challenging at times, becoming “totally immersed in their learning.” A third added: “It was fantastic to see pupils who are often disengaged become so enthused and creative. They really enjoyed having the chance to express themselves through coding in such a fun, supportive environment.”
We were particularly touched by teachers who felt the workshops had moved them as well as their pupils. One put it this way: “Seeing the children so enthused, engaged and excited like that is what makes our job so rewarding. Not only have the children improved their skills, I have too, of which I am truly grateful.”
The workshop itself drew some generous praise too. “Both leaders were patient, clear in their explanations, and demonstrated impressive subject knowledge. They created a supportive atmosphere where learners were encouraged to explore the software, make mistakes, and learn from them.” Another school described it as “a fantastic, engaging and well-prepared workshop,” noting that “the new skills have been used independently” since the session. And one teacher summed it up: “By the end of the session, every pupil had created a playable game, and they were so excited to share their creations with each other. I cannot recommend them highly enough.”
We loved reading every single one of these messages, and we’re so grateful to everyone who took the time to send them.
Looking Ahead
We’re incredibly grateful to Hayley Boulton and the entire BG STEM Project team for making this partnership possible, and for their commitment to ensuring every child in Blaenau Gwent has access to these experiences. As we look ahead to Autumn 2026, we’re already excited to meet a new year of pupils, build on the confidence of the pupils we met this year, and see what wonderful games they create.
